Today, the Utility company from Trebinje received the valuable municipal equipment (blowers, mowers, trimmers, sprayers pumps, etc.) worth over EUR 29,000 and 10 semi-underground containers worth EUR 37,000, procured within the project “Cross-border Environmental Initiative”. Beside the mentioned, two cars, worth over 30,000 euros, were handed over to the Trebinje City municipal police. All equipment will significantly facilitate and improve the work of the Utility Company and the Department of Municipal and Inspection Affairs, thus making the environment in our city cleaner, healthier and greener.

On this occasion, Mirko Ćurić, mayor of Trebinje, Veselin Šturanović, executive director of FORS Montenegro and Milan Mandrapa, director of Utility company Trebinje, addressed the audience. They emphasized the importance of this donation, environmental protection as well as raising the ecological awareness of citizens.

 

“The project made it possible for the City to procure the municipal equipment in accordance with the republic waste management plan. In this way our fellow citizens will have the opportunity to primarily select waste at the point of origin what will raise the environmental protection to much higher level,” said Mandrapa.“

The project “Cross-Border Environmental Initiative” aims to strengthen the capacity of institutions dealing with environmental protection, as well as informing the population about the importance of improving the solid waste management system and harmonizing it with European Union standards in this area. The main activities include the procurement of equipment and vehicles for utility companies and institutions, cross-border training for employees in institutions dealing with environmental protection, a campaign to raise the level of environmental awareness of citizens, the creation of publications, a cross-border conference, research of the solid waste structure of in the target area, provision of recommendations for improving the solid waste management system, etc. The project is implemented in Nikšić and Trebinje.

The project is funded by the European Union through the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the IPA Program of cross-border cooperation Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020, and is implemented by the City of Trebinje, in partnership with FORS Montenegro and the Utility Company from Nikšić. The total value of the project is over 584,000 euros, of which the European Union provided almost 317,000 euros in grants. The value of the project for Trebinje is about 178,000 euros, of which the European Union funded over 96,000 euros, while co-financing in the amount of about 82,000 euros was provided by the City of Trebinje.
