The cross-border area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, specifically the Foča and Plužine regions, will receive support over the next two years for the development of sustainable and high-quality tourism products to further enhance an integrated tourism destination internationally recognized for active tourism.
These activities will be implemented through the project “Tourism, Adrenaline, and Rafting Adventure v.2.0 – T.A.R.A v.2.0,” funded by the European Union under the Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2021-2027.
The T.A.R.A v.2.0 project was presented in the Municipalities of Foča and Plužine, where planned activities and expected results were introduced. The event gathered a number of tourism experts as well as representatives of local authorities who expressed their support for the project.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Plužine, Slobodan Delić, expressed his satisfaction with the continued cooperation with the Municipality of Foča in the field of tourism development, supported by financial assistance from the European Union. He expects that this project will achieve significant results, similar to those of the previous T.A.R.A. project.
The Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Foča, Vesna Rašević, emphasized her excitement about the new tourism products, the development of light infrastructure, and other activities that will be implemented during this project. “Our two municipalities are connected not only through the various projects we implement and the shared natural resources, but also through other aspects of social life,” said Rašević.
As part of the project, efforts will focus on developing and adopting a joint tourism development strategy, creating new cross-border tourism products, enhancing small-scale tourism infrastructure, improving safety at tourist destinations, and promoting the cross-border area as a unique destination for active tourism.
Mladen Mandić from the Foča Tourism Organization highlighted that this is the third project in a series of collaborations with Plužine. “It is important to note that this project builds upon the results achieved in the previous cross-border cooperation project between these two municipalities, where we significantly improved the tourism offerings of our communities,” said Mandić.
The Executive Director of the Piva Nature Park, Ivan Doderović, stated that such projects are important not only for the tourism industry and the development of tourism but also for strengthening the capacities of local governments and other stakeholders involved in the project. This, in turn, ensures continued applications for financial support from IPA funds.
This project represents the continuation and further improvement of previously achieved results. The project implementation began on December 1, 2024, and will last for two years, until November 30, 2026. The total project value is approximately EUR 500,000, with the European Union contributing around EUR 450,000.
