Adventure Park was officially opened in Plužine, alongside the presentation of the Integrated Strategy for the Development of the Sustainable Tourism Destination Foča–Plužine 2026–2030, within the framework of the cross-border cooperation project “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure v.2.0 – T.A.R.A v.2.0”, funded by the European Union.
The event confirmed the joint commitment of the partners from Plužine and Foča to strengthen cross-border cooperation by connecting tourism offer, improving infrastructure and services, and jointly developing a destination based on its natural assets and active tourism potential.
With the opening of the Adventure Park, Plužine has gained a new attraction designed for visitors interested in outdoor activities, nature and adventure. The park has been designed to be suitable to different categories of visitors and represents an important contribution to improving the tourism offer of the cross-border area and further developing active tourism.
The ceremony brought together representatives of local and national institutions, the European Union, the tourism sector, as well as partners and stakeholders involved in the development of the Foča–Plužine cross-border tourism destination.
Opening the event, President of the Municipality of Plužine, Slobodan Delić, highlighted the importance of continuing the joint efforts of Foča and Plužine to develop their tourism offer.
“Today is an important day for Plužine, but also for our joint tourism story with Foča. With the opening of the Adventure Park, we are further enriching our tourism offer and creating a new attraction for visitors. We are especially pleased that this is already the third joint project between Foča and Plužine, confirming that our partnership is delivering concrete results. We thank the European Union for its support, which through projects like this contributes to the development of our tourism offer and strengthens the links between our local communities. I believe this will encourage new joint projects and further position Foča and Plužine as a single tourism destination,” said Delić.
Deputy Mayor of the City of Foča, Vesna Rašević, also highlighted the importance of the long-standing cooperation, stressing that joint projects not only connect the two destinations, but also create concrete opportunities for local economic development.
“Foča and Plužine have shown for years that by working together we can create a stronger and higher-quality tourism offer. It is particularly important to us that our projects not only connect the two destinations, but also create attractions that can encourage visitors to stay longer and contribute to the local economy. The Adventure Park in Plužine is another example of this approach, and we are pleased that it will become part of the joint tourism offer of Foča and Plužine,” said Rašević.
The Integrated Strategy for the Development of the Sustainable Tourism Destination Foča–Plužine 2026–2030 was also presented at the event. The Strategy provides a common framework for tourism development in the two local communities. Its vision is for Foča and Plužine to become an internationally recognised, integrated cross-border destination for active and sustainable tourism.
The Strategy defines four strategic priorities: developing an integrated and recognisable cross-border destination; improving tourism infrastructure, accessibility and service quality; developing and connecting the tourism offer of the two municipalities; and strengthening visitor safety and risk management systems. Particular emphasis is placed on nature protection, the involvement of the local community and the digital visibility of the destination. An action plan for the next five-year period forms an integral part of the Strategy.
Speaking about the importance of the project and EU support, Melanie Bride, Programme Manager for Territorial Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, highlighted that projects such as this represent a concrete and visible contribution to local communities.
“For the European Union, this project represents exactly what our support is about – a concrete and visible impact of our investments on citizens and local communities. European integration is not only about negotiations and policies, but also about real projects that improve tourism offers, attract visitors and bring new energy to local communities. We are pleased to see EU funds being used effectively and proud to have supported the implementation of this project,” said Bride.
Edbera Biković, Programme Manager at the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly highlighted the contribution of the partners from Plužine and Foča, stressing the importance of cross-border cooperation in making use of the area’s natural and cultural potential.
“The partners from Plužine and Foča have made a significant contribution to the implementation of the project. Their joint work, creativity and commitment have helped improve tourism attractions and facilities, benefiting both local communities and visitors. The European Union is committed to supporting Western Balkan countries in making better use of their cultural heritage and natural potential, while cross-border cooperation plays a particularly important role by creating opportunities to connect communities and develop joint tourism products. This project is a clear example of such cooperation,” said Biković.
Following the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests visited the park and were introduced to its facilities and adventure routes.
The Adventure Park was developed within the T.A.R.A v.2.0 project, implemented by the Municipality of Plužine, the City of Foča, Piva Nature Park and the Tourist Organisation of the City of Foča, with financial support from the European Union through the IPA III Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027.
The project implementation started on 1 December 2024 and will continue until 30 November 2026. The total project value is approximately EUR 530,000, of which the European Union contribution amounts to EUR 447,200.
