New vehicles for better environmental protection

Within the framework of the project “Cross-Border Initiative for Environmental Protection”, municipal institutions and services dealing with environmental protection two new all-terrain vehicles, worth around 30,000 euros are delivered today in Nikšić. With this donation for the Communal Police and the Secretariat for Communal Affairs and Traffic, the control of waste disposal and environmental protection in the municipality of Nikšić will be greatly improved. This was also an opportunity to present mobile applications called “Clean City. Now!”, which is also the slogan of the project itself, which enables simple reporting of environmental problems in the area of the municipality of Nikšić.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Marko Kovačević, president of Nikšić Municipality and Veselin Šturanović, executive director of FORS Montenegro, addressed the audience at the press conference organized on this occasion.

Otherwise, the project “Cross-Border Initiative for Environmental Protection” aims to strengthen the capacity of institutions dealing with environmental protection, as well as informing the population about the importance of improving the solid waste management system and harmonizing it with European Union standards in this area. It is implemented by FORS Montenegro, in partnership with the City of Trebinje and the Communal Company from Nikšić. The implementation of the project is in Nikšić and Trebinje, and the main activities include the procurement of equipment and vehicles for utility companies and institutions, cross-border training for employees in institutions dealing with environmental protection, a campaign to raise the level of environmental awareness among citizens, the creation of publications, a cross-border conference, research on the structure of solid of waste in the target area, providing recommendations for improving the solid waste management system, etc.

The project is financed by the European Union through the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the framework of the IPA Program for cross-border cooperation Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020. The total value of the project is over 584,000 euros, of which the European Union provided nearly 317,000 euros in grants. The value of the project for Montenegro is over 406,000 euros, of which the European Union finances about 220,000 euros, while co-financing in the amount of 183,100 euros was provided by the Ministry of Public Administration. The contribution of the utility company is 3,300 euros.
