With financial support from the European Union through the T.A.R.A. v.2 project, works have been successfully completed to improve lighting at key tourist and cultural-historical sites in Foča, further strengthening the tourism potential of the area.

Under the slogan “One Journey – A Thousand Stories,” the project “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure v.2 (T.A.R.A. V.2),” funded by the European Union, presented its authentic tourism offer at the 47th International Tourism Fair in Belgrade, held from February 19–22, 2026.

With financial support from the European Union, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro will host digital nomads from around the world this spring. Participants will spend one month living and working in rural areas of the two countries, promoting them as attractive destinations for remote work and sustainable tourism.

The first joint rescue exercise between the municipalities of Foča and Plužine was held in Foča, organized with the financial support of the European Union. The exercise, titled “Drina 2025,” aimed to enhance the capacities and preparedness of rescue services from the two municipalities for effective response in emergency situations, as well as to strengthen mutual cooperation and coordination during rescue operations in the fields of tourism and outdoor recreation.

Thanks to the financial support of the European Union, and within the framework of the “STAR” project that promotes tourism and attracts digital nomads to rural cross-border areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, the four-day Cross Border Coworking Conference (CBCC) 2025 was successfully concluded.

The Education Center of the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection of the Canton of Sarajevo – Stup was opened today in Sarajevo, which will be used for the education of local and other rescue teams in the field of protection and rescue in cases of natural and other disasters and emergency intervention situations.

More than 350 young people from the cross-border areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro gathered at the Youth Employment Fair held on May 24th 2024 in Mostar . The goal of this event was to give young people an opportunity for education, employment and improvement of professional skills.

The results of a two-year project financed by European Union were presented in Grude on 22 Februay 2024. The project increased the capacities of 5 civil protection units in the area of West Herzegovina Canton and Herceg Novi in order to protect citizens and the economy as effectively as possible during natural disasters. Through this project, the European Union provided specialized trainings and the purchase of equipment worth 220,000 euros.

More than 30 members of the Cross-border Protection and Rescue team and other members of the emergency services passed 5 two-day trainings in the period from June to November 2023. Trainings were organized within the project “Increasing Capacities to Prevent, Prepare and Respond to Disasters – Resilient Border”, financed by the European Union.

Within the “Joint Response” project, which is financed by the European Union, a training and intervention exercise were held in the area of the Nature Park Hutovo Blato in Čapljina, for members of the firefighting units from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Through the project and joint training, the capacities of 42 members of the fire services from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro were strengthened, with the aim of improving cross-border cooperation and interventions in protected areas.

In Mostar, in the period 12-14 June 2023, a training and intervention exercise was held for members of the Mountain Rescue Services (MRS) from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, with the aim of strengthening cross-border cooperation and the readiness of members of the MRS for rescue interventions.

Today, the Utility company from Trebinje received the valuable municipal equipment (blowers, mowers, trimmers, sprayers pumps, etc.) worth over EUR 29,000 and 10 semi-underground containers worth EUR 37,000, procured within the project “Cross-border Environmental Initiative”. Representatives of institutions and disaster risk management services from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro participated in a three-day study visit to the Republic of Croatia in the period from May 31 to June 2, 2023. The visit was organized within the framework of the project “Improving capacities for prevention, preparation and response to disasters – Resilient border”, which is financed by the European Union.

A center of creative industries was opened today in Jablanica, as part of the ceremony of the Municipality Day. A special gratitude for the opening of the Center was sent to the EU, which funded the adaptation and equipping of the Center through the project of the Cross – border cooperation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro “Creative industries for employment without borders”.

Today, the Herceg Novi Protection and Rescue Service received a new fully equipped fire truck for interventions in urban and rural areas. The vehicle worth almost EUR 98,000.00 was acquired within the project “Improving the capacity for prevention, preparation and response to disasters – Resilient border”, which is financed by the European Union.

Within the framework of the project “Cross-Border Initiative for Environmental Protection”, municipal institutions and services dealing with environmental protection two new all-terrain vehicles, worth around 30,000 euros are delivered today in Nikšić.

A three-year project to support the employment of young people and the creation of new employment opportunities in the cross-border area was presented today in Berane. The project tasks were discussed by: Mrs. Liselotte Iaksson, Deputy Head of Cooperation in the EU Delegation in Montenegro, Mr. Marko Lalević, manager of the municipality of Berane and Mr. Marko Đelović, director of Caritas Montenegro.

About 500 young people between the ages of 18 and 35, who are long-term unemployed, will have the opportunity to participate in training for acquiring new skills and professional orientation.

During the next two years, the rescue services from Sarajevo and Danilovgrad will receive support for the development of their capacities in order to respond to natural disasters as efficiently and quickly as possible. Bearing in mind the increase in threats from fires, earthquakes and floods, the European Union finances the project “Increasing resilience of communities for risk prevention and management – RESCOMM” in order to strengthen the capacities of rescue services in local communities in BiH and Montenegro.

Through the project “Creative Industries for Employment without Borders”, the European Union supported the establishment of four centres to support easier employment in the sector of creative industries. The centres were established as a partnership initiative of the 21 actor of local development, who, by signing a cooperation agreement, established centres in Danilovgrad, Konjic, Bijelo Polje and Jablanica.

The training program “Procedures and practices for efficient and sustainable water companies” was held in Sarajevo, from April 27 to 29, 2022. Training was organized by the project “Action to increase energy and water efficiency of water supply services”, funded by the European Union.

On Wednesday, January 26, 2022 The final conference of the project “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure (T.A.R.A.)”, funded by the European Union, was held in Plužine, where the achieved results of the project were presented.

The first duathlon “Sutjeska – Piva”, which gathered 50 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, was held on October 17, 2021 with the support of the European Union. The duathlon was organized within the project “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure (T.A.R.A.)” implemented by the Municipalities of Foča and Plužine with partners.

Four water companies in BiH and Montenegro have received equipment that will make easier to find leakages in the water supply network and enable the reduction of physical water losses, with the aim of improving water efficiency and providing quality water supply services. Equipment worth EUR 48,000 is provided by the European Union within the cross-border project BiH-Montenegro “Action to increase energy and water efficiency of water supply services”.

The Final Conference of the project “YOUth Drive – Program for raising awareness on proper waste management and empowering legislators for taking action” funded by the European Union was held in Široki Brijeg on Thursday, 30 October 2021.

The final conference of the project “FORT-NET – from medieval fortifications in Herzegovina to Austro-Hungarian fortifications in Montenegro”, funded by the European Union, was held on Tuesday, September 28. 2021 in Ljubuški.

Forum of active tourism called “Cycling and tourism: Win-Win combination” – the final event within the project “Cycling routes for the improvement of natural and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Montenegro – Cycling Rural” was held the support of the European Union on Friday, September 24, 2021. in Ljubuški.

Within the project “Action to increase energy and water efficiency of water supply services”, funded by the European Union through the IPA cross-border cooperation program Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro, a training called “Academy on Improving Energy and Water Efficiency in the Water Supply Sector” was held in Herceg Novi from 07 to 10 September 2021.

On July 24 2021, within the project “Cycling routes to improve natural and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Montenegro – Cycling Rural”, funded by the European Union, a bicycle race called “Ajduk Trail” was held as part of Blidinje BIKE Festival. This bicycle race, conceived as a recreational ride, was organized with the aim of promoting the cycling tourist offer of Herzegovina and its tourist capacities.

The brown bear’s precious habitat extends across Montenegro and BiH. By working in a cross-border project, scientists have gained new insights into these iconic creatures.

The European Union financed the allocation of 30 solar systems to households from Katun settlements through the project “Katun Roads of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

Within the project “Cycling routes to improve natural and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Montenegro – Cycling Rural”, funded by the European Union, Forum of Active Tourism called “Adriatic Outdoor Adventure” took place on March 12, 2021.

The project “Cross-border Environmental Initiative” implementing by  FORS Montenegro was presented at  press conference in Nikšić, on February 17, 2021.

Within the project “YOUth drive”, funded by the European Union, video education of primary and secondary school students from the West Herzegovina Canton was organized. This type of education covers all the most important topics about the importance and significance of environmental protection, and about proper waste management.

An entrepreneur from Bosnia and Herzegovina has turned the Tara Canyon into a source of income for the countries connected by the river.

The opportunity to hear the voice of young eco-activists from Jablanica came through the participation of the Primary School “Suljo Čilić” in the project “Joint Efforts for 5% Less Waste – 5% LESS”, funded by the European Union. The students of the mentioned Primary School recorded a video through which they want to send a strong message about the world they want to live in.

The European Union supports capacity building on EU standards for water supply for employees of the public administration in Rogatica and Kolašin.
The online training was completed on 16the December 2020. The 4-day training increased capacities of 20 staff of municipalities and water supply companies, which will improve the operating standards in water supply in the two municipalities.

One of activities within the project “Joint Efforts for 5% Less Waste” funded by the European Union, is to encourage young people to get more involved in environment protection and change their perspective on how to treat it properly. Thus, students, eco-poets and five primary schools from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro wrote an ecological poet and recorded a video, in order to send a strong message about the need to return nature to their own backyards, schools and lives.

As part of the cross-border cooperation project funded by the European Union, an online Conference on Energy and Water Efficiency of Water Supply Services in the Cross-Border Area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro was held on October 22 and 23, 2020. It was the first of three planned conferences, aimed at promoting EU standards, policies, and practices to increase water and energy efficiency in the water supply sector in the cross-border area between BiH and Montenegro.

The Mayors of the Municipalities of Foča (BiH) and Plužine (Montenegro) signed a mutual agreement on cooperation in the field of protection and rescue within the project “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure (T.A.R.A.), financed by the European Union.” The agreement was signed between these municipalities, as well as between the National Park Sutjeska and the Nature Park Piva, all with the aim of improving the security of this cross-border area.

The modernization of the museums in Nikšić and Jablanica is being realized within the project of cross-border cooperation „Amusing Museums” financed by the European Union. With virtual reality technology, visitors will be able to travel into the past.

Within the project “Joint efforts for 5% Less Waste”, the Municipality of Šavnik received a specialized combined machine for waste reduction in the amount of 70,000 EUR.
On the occasion of the delivery of specialized combined machine, in the Municipality of Šavnik, Mayor, Vlatko Vuković pointed out that solid waste management for years one of the major problems not only in the municipality of Šavnik, but is one of the main problems of Montenegro, and that the realization of this project will greatly contribute to solving the problems in this municipality.

On Saturday, August 1, the Municipalities of Foča and Plužine organized the first international mountain race “PP PIVA – NP SUTJESKA TRAIL” with the support of the European Union which gathered runners from seven European countries. More than 100 participants from BiH, Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, UK and France competed in the 42km Strike (Marathon) category and the 25km Proletarian (Challenger) category, as well as in the 12km and 4km categories.

Twenty-three people from Herzegovina and the border areas of Montenegro have successfully completed the training and passed the exam for certified guides according to the ‘Interpret Europe’ methodology within the cross-border cooperation project “Amusing Museums – aMUSeumING” funded by the European Union.

Yesterday, as a part of the “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure (T.A.R.A)” Project, the municipalities of Foca (BiH) and Pluzine (Montenegro) organized 30 June 2020 a coordination meeting for members of their rescue services (civil protection, police, health institutions, fire services and associations, protection and rescue services, Mountain Rescue Service), where measures, standards and modern safety trends at tourist sites, risk management and rescue on water and under water were discussed.

The cross-border cooperation project “Amusing Museums – aMUSeumING” organizes training for twelve accommodation service providers from Herzegovina and the border areas of Montenegro in order to raise the quality of their work and connect accommodation facilities and museums.

Within the cross-border project, financed by EU, the employees of the Public Utility Company “Vrela Seljani” in Rogatica, on 8th of June started 10-day-training on detection of defects on water supply network.

Twenty persons from Herzegovina and border areas of Montenegro will have the opportunity to attend the training and become certified guides to the Interpret Europe methodology as part of the cross-border cooperation project “Amusing Museums – aMUSeumING”.

Thanks to the support of the European Union, POWER is launching a campaign called “5 to 12” (five to twelve), will take place from 7 to 30 April 2020, which aime is raising public awareness of the right of persons with disabilities to work and employment.

Thanks to the cross-border cooperation of museums from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, with the financial support of the EU, the quality will be improved and the tourist offer will be enriched in accordance with new trends and technologies.

The joint booth of the municipalities of Pluzine and Foca attracted significant attention of high officials, representatives of the tourism industry, the media, as well as many interested adventure and active tourism lovers at this year’s International Tourism Fair in Belgrade.

With the aim of interconnecting, strengthening cross-border cooperation and exchange of waste management experience and practices, representatives of public utility companies and municipalities of Savnik, Zabljak and Pljevlja from Montenegro visited Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period 04-06 February 2020.

A cross-border cooperation project “Tourism, Adrenaline and Rafting Adventure (T.A.R.A)” was officialy presented in Pluzine and Foča. The aim of the project is developing and promoting the cross-border area of the two municipalities as a unique tourist destination for active tourism.

On October 29 2019,in Jablanica was formally established regional public-private partnerships on the project “Joint Efforts for 5% Less Waste”. The main objective of the project is to establish an integrated waste management system in 6 municipalities through inter-municipal and regional cooperation between BiH and Montenegro.

About 40 persons with disabilities from BiH and Montenegro will receive training in beekeeping, which will enable them in running their own business and mutual association, within the project “People with disabilities – leaders in beekeeping”.
